Our story

A shop on Tourist Street, and thirty-five years of visitors.

Islander opened in Bugibba in 1990 selling souvenirs. Everything since — the cars, the transfers, the scooters, the classic wedding fleet — grew out of guests asking us for one more thing, and us saying yes.

Where it startedA small souvenir shop in the middle of Bugibba.

The long version

We grew because people kept asking.

The shop came first. Then a visitor wanted a lift to the airport, and another wanted a car for the week, and someone else needed a scooter for their mother so she could get down to the promenade. Each request became a service, and the services became the business.

What has not changed is the scale of it. Islander is still a family concern on the same street, which means the person who quotes your price is the person who hands you the keys and the person who answers when you call from a car park in Mdina. There is no head office to escalate to, because there is no head office.

Bugibba has changed a great deal around us — hotels have gone up, the promenade has been rebuilt twice — but the job is the same one it was in 1990. Someone arrives on the island for a week and wants it to go well. We make that our problem rather than theirs.

What we hold to

Four things we will not trade away.

Honest pricing

The quote is the total. We would rather lose a booking to a cheaper headline rate than win one and rebuild the price at the counter.

Actual people

You deal with the same small team from enquiry to return. No scripts, no queue, no being handed between departments.

Local knowledge

We know which bay is sheltered when the wind swings north, and where you will actually find a parking space. Ask us anything.

Turning up

Late flights, early departures, a puncture on a Sunday. The commitment is simple: when something goes wrong, we are reachable and we sort it.

Where you'll find us

In the middle of everything, by design.

Tourist Street sits in the heart of Bugibba's hotel district. For most guests we are a five-minute walk — which is exactly why we chose to stay put rather than move somewhere cheaper out of town.

  • Minutes from the DB San Antonio Hotel & Spa and the DoubleTree by Hilton.
  • Walking distance from the Santana, Euroclub, Ibis, Relax Inn, Mayflower, Canifor and Sea View hotels.
  • Surrounded by the apartments and Airbnbs that make up most of St. Paul's Bay.
  • Free street parking outside, and the promenade two minutes away.
